Sometimes when you go on vacation, it can be difficult to find activities the whole family will enjoy. That’s not the case here at the beautiful Lake Chelan! There are plenty of options for every member of your family to enjoy, no matter their ages. If you’re looking for suggestions, here are five fun activities you can look forward to during your time here.
5. Head to Slidewaters
There’s nothing better on a hot day like cooling off at the pool, especially when it’s a wave pool! Head to Slidewaters and you’re certain to have a family fun-filled day as you sit back and relax on the Lazy River, compete against one another on Downhill Racer, and ride a slide in complete darkness on Purple Haze.
Don’t forget to take breaks from the water to volley on sand courts, snag a bite to eat at Slidewaters Grill, or grab matching glitter tattoos. You can even rent out a Private Pavillion for the day when visiting with a large group.
Slidewaters was named a Top 15 waterpark in the U.S. for back-to-back years for a reason as the surrounding scenery is unmatched and has regular additions to its park. Soon you’ll be able to test your balance while surfing an artificial beach wave. Surf’s up!
4. Try Your Hand at Geocaching
If you’re not yet familiar, geocaching is similar to a treasure hunt that can be accomplished using either a GPS device or cell phone with geo-location. Your goal, should you choose to accept, is discover the hidden geocaches in your area and seek them out using provided coordinates. If found, you then sign your name to the provided notebook and claim yourself a geocache champion, onto the next hunt.
A geocache can be placed anywhere by anyone and has become such a phenomenon that thousands are placed throughout the world, especially in rural areas and on hiking trails. This is a fun activity for all ages and a great way to stay engaged during an outing in addition to taking in the surround views.
3. Speed Around the Track
This is a fun, thrilling activity for kids, teenagers, and parents too! Stop by Rally Alley, which is a kidney-shaped track located in Don Morse Park. You can find the track across from the Red Apple Market and next to the miniature golf course. The track first opened on Memorial Day Weekend, and then remains open from mid-June until Labor Day.
They have single karts and double karts available, as well as smaller cars for the younger, smaller kids who will be future race drivers. And there is an area for anyone who doesn’t want to race to watch the fun and cheer them on! And if you want to go miniature golfing before or afterward, that course at Don Morse Park is also open from Memorial Day until Labor Day.
2. Visit Blueberry Hills Farm
There are lots of great restaurants in the Lake Chelan area. One family-friendly favorite is Blueberry Hills Farm, which was named one of the top 4 restaurants in Washington State by The Seattle Times. The restaurant is on the 20-acre family owned and operated farm, which also includes a fruit stand and a gift shop. On the restaurants’ vast menu you can find options the whole family will enjoy, with plenty of great foods for kids. For example, you can go for breakfast and try their Danish yeast waffles, with varieties such as Coconut Crème and a special Smiley Face Waffle for kids. The menu has gluten-free options as well.
There’s an outdoor deck that’s open in the warmer months if your family prefers to eat outside, with a great view of the farm itself. And the restaurant is very dog-friendly, in case your furry friend wants to come along.
True to its name, the farm features 16 different varieties of blueberries. It’s a U-Pick farm, meaning you and the kids can go out and have fun picking your own berries. The raspberries, heirloom strawberries, and blackberries are all everbearing varieties, so they are available to pick all the way from late spring until late fall.
1. Get Out on the Lake
Of course, most of the favorite family activities take place at the centerpiece of our area, Lake Chelan itself! There’s something for everyone at the lake. Your family can swim, take a boat out, jet ski, kayak, paddle board, or even go fishing. Or just sit out and enjoy the sunshine from The Lookout's private beach cove.
Watercraft and boat rentals are available at The Lookout's marina from the middle of June through Labor Day.
Activities at the lake aren’t just limited to the warm summer months! Beachcombing is a favorite Lake Chelan pastime for those colder months where your family won’t want to get in the water, but still want to experience the beach. When the water level drops over ten feet in the late fall, winter, and spring months, it’s the perfect time to search for rocks and minerals to take home. If you have one, you can use a metal detector. It’ll be like a little treasure hunt!
These are just a few of the fun options available at Lake Chelan. There are also plenty of special events scheduled throughout the year. Annual festivals range from the Top Dog Parade in March to 4th of July celebrations to WinterFest and much more..
The Lookout was designed to give your whole family a place to relax, explore and be active together. From our private beach cove to our many parks and amenities, there is something for everyone here. And it’s just a short walk or bike ride into town, so you won’t have to travel far to find more fun and entertainment.
